09 Jun 10 Google Phones Get GPS Functionality

Google phones like the Google Nexus One will be getting a software update which will now turn them into GPS devices to rival phones in the market which have integrated global positioning in their list of features.

The new upgrade will affect phones running on Android versions 1.6 and higher and will provide added features like turn-by-turn navigation and Google Street View capability. The turn-by-turn feature will work like a regular in-car GPS: the user inputs a destination and the device provides directions to that destination.

These numbers have doubled from recent months but is still a far cry from the 100,000 apps that the Apple app store carries. 17 Dec 09 Google Phone Coming Out with 2 Versions

Google will be releasing two versions of the Google Phone, one with a contract with T-Mobile USA and one that is unlocked. The Google phones will have code names like HTC Passion, Dream or Nexus and will be available at the Google website by January 5, 2010. The phone will somehow resemble the iPhone only that it will come with a larger screen and will have provisions for adding a memory card to it.
