It seems that with the Blackberry faltering, the Android has now become the top choice in the smartphone market and overtaking even the Apple iPhone. US consumers are preferring the Android OS, accounting for abou 27% of smartphone sales over the iPhone’s 23%.
The Blackberry seems to be losing its share as most users are now jumping ship. The figures were revealed by Nielson.

After initially being hit by Apple for allegedly violating 20 patents related to the iPhone’s interface, HTC is now on the firing end. HTC is now filing a complaint with the Federal Trade Commission (FTC) to seek the halt of iPhone, iPad and iPod manufacturing outside the U.S.
HTC, chief maker of the Google Nexus One, claims Apple is infringing the patents of three phone directories and two relating to power management. While this does some credible, it is seen more of a delaying tactic as the two giant companies battle for leverage in the mobile phone market.

You may be wondering what is so significant about the 74 day period. Well this is apparently in connection with comparison on how Apple fared for their iPhone. In case you forgot, they sold 1 million units in that span. As far as the Google Nexus One is concerned, they sold only 135,000 units. If that isn’t enough, Android sold 1.05 million units. So what am I getting at?
In all, is the Google Nexus One indeed a flop? Generally, you can. However on a professional note, you have to put into consideration their marketing tactics. It could be a problem internally since we all know how Apple and Android have gone on the rampage. If that is the case, Google may want to consider looking into the people behind it (or maybe their business plan!)unless they are not really serious on seeing the Google Nexus One flourish.

It should not be surprising why Google Earth was bound to hit the Google Nexus One. Initially made available via the iPhone, Google was expected to make a version for its own mobile device. And of course, being their own, the Google Earth for the Google Nexus one will come out with features not present for the iPhone version.
A “Look-Around mode” and a Layers option are two of the distinct features that the Nexus One version will carry. Multi-touch and double tap are likewise enabled as well as improved rendering thanks to Snapdragon.

So is the iPhone threatened at all?
Google will be releasing two versions of the Google Phone, one with a contract with T-Mobile USA and one that is unlocked. The Google phones will have code names like HTC Passion, Dream or Nexus and will be available at the Google website by January 5, 2010. The phone will somehow resemble the iPhone only that it will come with a larger screen and will have provisions for adding a memory card to it.
